A major global company serving customers in water-intensive industries. With headquarters in Europe, it offers water quality and quantity management to improve customers’ energy, water, and raw material efficiency.


With an objective to expand its North American operations, the company determined that growth in its municipal and industrial business segment would be best achieved through acquisition(s).

Tompkins International's Role
  • After the company identified strategic requirements, Tompkins helped identify screening criteria to qualify the characteristics of target companies.
  • Tompkins was tasked with identifying potential acquisition targets in North America for its municipal and industrial business segment and determining the related trends of water and wastewater treatment in North American industrial markets.
  • After developing and obtaining approval of a short list of candidate companies, Tompkins explored the interest level of a merger and acquisition while keeping the company confidential.
The Results
  • Performed market research and interviews with a wide range of industry suppliers and consulting engineers to determine industry perceptions of the companies under consideration.
  • A short list of potential candidates was identified and Tompkins determined the level of interest in a merger and acquisition.
  • In anticipation of the acquisition, the company completed a new organizational structure assigning P+L by region to further position the company for success.
